Race Report..

Hey All!!

I am sorry! My computer access has been limited!

So... Noel was out of the hospital, he is alright. No racing for approx 6 weeks ( L ), but it happens right? I finished 5th overall in Lady Cup, pretty good for a privateer although I would have loved top 3.

Today is one of my favorite days during the Erzbergrodeo! There is so much excitement and energy that it is impossible not to have a good time. It being about 30 degrees, it was a hot day for the riders and spectators. I saw a lot of sunburns and a lot of sweaty dirty riders. They guys where all up early getting there stuff together, and race started almost exactly at noon, and Shane had an EXCELLENT START! Noel and I hiked into Carl’s Diner, and spent most of the day there, we helped out some of our friends (Graffunder, POrtbury, Paul Bolton) and motivated those we don’t know who where definitely close to hitting the wall. (Cheering seems to be the same in all languages, thank goodness.) We also stopped by Dynamite, and some transition sections on our way back to the finish line, to get some pictures of the top guys. They actually extended the race by about an hour because a rider had to be Heli-vacced out of one of the sections. The course was the hardest yet (as told by Chris Birch (UK)) and their where about 20 finishers (not confirmed...)

Shane and Jared both qualified first row, Shane with number 28 an Jared with 45. Shane had some bike issues, he ran into some rebar and it took a while for him to figure out why his bike wasn’t running properly. Both Jared and Shane made it to check point 13, out of twenty which is pretty good. Althought both guys are disappointed by their DNF’s, so we will see about Erzberg 2010!

Results are posted here:

Please Note: Cory Graffunder finished the race 5th overall, which was phenomenal!

Pictures, between Greg Bolso, Janine Thomas and me, we have HUNDREDS! I will set up a link ASAP!! I also have some video of Cory Graffunder and Mark Portbury (Australia) going thru the beginning of Carl’s Diner.

Hattrick at the "Iron Giant": KTM's Taddy Blazusiak (POL) dominates the Red Bull Hare Scramble for a sensational third consecutive time!
"Tougher than anything I've ever ridden!" Taddy Blazusiak's first words after reaching the Red Bull arch inside the Erzberg-Arena need no further explanation. It was definitely the hardest Hare Scramble of all times and Taddy crowned his Erzbergrodeo success with an unbelievable margin of more than 40 minutes (!) over second placed Briton Graham Jarvis (Sherco). Jarvis had to start the Red Bull Hare Scramble out of third row andmanaged to overtake 114 other riders on his way to the podium. BMW factory rider Andreas Lettenbichler from Germany piloted his G450X to a third place finish, and even though he had no mechanical problems this year, Lettenbichler had to go far beyond all physical borders to reach the finish line.

21 riders from 11 nations finish the toughest motorcycle race in the world!
Out of the 500 riders who started at 12:00am, only 21 brave athletes made it to the finish within the four hours race time. Considering the prolongued and dramatically selective racetrack, the high temperatures of today and the ammount of high-profile riders in the starting-grid, it's plain to see that these 21 riders have put their profile on the top of the world's offroad racing scene.

Abort and Re-Start
Trial-Superstar Dougie Lampkin (UK, Beta) had to call it quits at the infamous "Gerichtsgraben" section before he could reach Checkpoint 17 out of 20. The 12-times Trials Worldchampion collapsed because of total exhaustion and had to be rescued by helicopter. Race director Karl Katoch immediately stopped the riders behind Lampkin to secure the rescue-mission and then re-started the race from this section.

Last year's third place finisher Paul Bolton (UK, KTM) also had to quit his race due to exhaustion before CP 15. Brothers Ben and Dan Hemingway from Leeds, UK made up for quite a sensation by finishing fourth and seventh at their first ever Erzbergrodeo entry. 21-years old Cory Graffunder (CAN, KTM) proofed once again his riding abilities and placed a career best 5th place at the Iron Giant.

Prologue Day 1 Overveiw

Hello,

Yesterday was very eventful! We shall do the good news first... Both Shane and Jared placed extremely well. Shane was 34 overall and Jared was 39. Cory Graffunder a fellow canuck from BC placed an impressive 7th overall. I managed a 4th in Lady Cup, which was good. Today we have our final runs. Both Shane and Jared have secured a 1st row start, which makes a huge difference in this event.

Noel had a okay prologue run, he had some bike problems which where promptly fixed before I went out. After prologue Noel went to qualify for endurocross, during his run on the track he dislocated his shoulder, he didn't crash which was odd but it was torque out none the less. He was transfered to the location hospital, and when they couldn't get it 'back in' there we headed to Leoben, which is the closest city. In Leoben the doctors had to put Noel under, so he then had to stay overnight in Leoben. THis morning his parents are going to go pick him up and bring him back to the race site.

Its 9:30am here, and Shane and Jared have both gone for their final prologue run. I will be heading out around 11. Neither Shane nor Jared are doing the endurocross, so they will be spending the afternoon prepping their bikes for the HareScramble tomorrow. This evening we will watchin FMX, and Endurocross before heading home!

Thanks guys,

Gilles DeJong wins the first trophy at the Erzbergrodeo 2009
The Erzbergrodeo kicked off with a surprising result on the very first day of the unique event. Belgian KTM fmx4ever Factory Freestyle-Motocrosser Gilles DeJong won the Rocket Ride Superfinals in front of an enthusiastic crowd of thousands of Motorsports fans.

300 riders challenged the mighty, three story uphill-section today and offered supreme offroad action to the spectators alongside the track and in the Erzberg-Arena, where thousands of people could witness the racing efforts of riders from 33 different nations thanks to the Erzbergrodeo-TV service on two huge videowalls.

DeJong proofed that even FMX riders know exactly how to go wide open and went straight through the Qualifiers into the main event on Thursday evening. Gilles toughest competitors could not be find amongst his factory-rider colleagues like Cyril Despres, Chris Birch, Andreas Lettenbichler or Darryl Curtis - it was a young Austrian Motocrosser Seppi Fally who actually dominated the 500 meter long uphill section. The Kawasaki mounted rider let his bike fly over the track like no one else and reached the Superfinals without a doubt.

The line-up of the final race also featured KTM factory rider Chris Birch (NZL), BMW's Andreas Lettenbichler (GER), KTM Freestyle-MXer Nick Franklin (NZL) and Austrian rider Herbert Lindner. Right after the start Fally took the lead and hammered his KX450F towards the peak of the track, closely followed by DeJong, Lettenbichler and Birch. After Seppi Fally made a slight mistake in the last third of the race, the road to victory was open for Gilles DeJong, followed by Andreas Lettenbichler and Chris Birch.  Offroad-Superstars Dougie Lampkin (UK), Paul Bolton (UK), Jade Gutzeit (RSA) and Darryl Curtis (RSA) couldn't match the speed of the finalists today, while KTM's Taddy Blazusiak had to withdraw from the new Erzbergrodeo side event because he would not risk his foreseeable hattrick at the Red Bull Hare Scramble on Sunday.

Results ROCKET RIDE Superfinals:
1.  Gilles DeJong (BEL), KTM 250 SX
2.  Andreas Lettenbichler (GER), BMW G450X
3.  Chris Birch (NZL), KTM 300 EXC
4.  Seppi Fally (AUT), Kawasaki KX450F
5.  Nick Franklin (NZL), KTM 250 SX
6.  Herbert Lindner (AUT), Sherco 450

Rocket ride!

Yesterday after registration, tech and pre bike maintence we all enjoyed a day of relaxing in the sun!!!

Ha ha okay, I guess that's only funny to me.... It was beautiful out until about 1130. It then started to rain, and it poured rain all day! On and off but it sure gave 'er! The boys all went on a prologue tour and then managed to scope a few of the sections, where I went on a different prologue adventure as well as on a very short ride with some of the free stylers and our ktm hook ups.

The rocket ride was a 2 hill climb time trial which qualified a rider for the 'evening show'. Noel had bike problems, which was a mixed blessing, good thing he figured it out before Sunday! Shane qualified 7, Cory Graffunder qualified 11 and Jared qualified 20.. All 3 of our cdn made it to the semi finals and only the top 2 (?) moved on and one of the free stylers finished 1st! I have try to get proper results today, but they were having extensive trouble getting internet up in the press tent.

We are just on our way to the mountian. And I will try to post some more info tonight!

Thanks so much!
